Legal Ethics and Law Firm Risk Management
We frequently are asked by attorneys throughout California and elsewhere to advise about the ethical rules that apply to their practices, as set forth in the California Rules of Professional Conduct and the American Bar Association’s Model Rules. The firm has handled hundreds, if not thousands, of such assignments and has addressed virtually every ethical issue codified in the Rules or set forth in decisional authority, at one time or another. Our approach is to deliver thoughtful, practical advice that takes into account the realities of client relationships and modern day law practice. We have particular experience in addressing lawyer conflict of interest issues.
We also have significant experience advising law firms about risk management. We believe in a proactive approach with an eye towards thwarting issues before they morph into a significant problem. We occasionally conduct risk audits of law firms (usually at the request of an errors and omissions insurer) to devise improvements in risk management systems.
